Certified reliability for mission-critical environments

Refurbished enterprise hardware, ready for production

Every server, switch, storage array and component we ship goes through a multi-stage technical certification process before leaving our warehouse. We don't resell second-hand gear: we deliver enterprise-grade refurbished infrastructure engineered to run in 24/7 data centers with the same reliability as new equipment, at a fraction of the cost and a dramatically lower environmental footprint.

1. Testing & Certification Process

All units go through a five-stage validation protocol. No product is listed for sale until the full cycle is complete and every check has passed.

1

Physical inspection and traceability

Serial number and service tag verification, cross-checked against the OEM (Dell, HPE, Cisco, NetApp, etc.). Full inspection of chassis, backplanes, connectors and exposed components. Previous-owner labels and data are removed under a certified protocol.

2

Secure data wipe (NIST 800-88)

All storage media (HDD, SATA/SAS SSD, NVMe) is irreversibly wiped following NIST SP 800-88 Revision 1 (Purge/Clear). Drives that fail verification are physically destroyed. A certificate of erasure is issued on request for GDPR compliance purposes.

3

Firmware-level diagnostics

Official vendor diagnostics are run (Dell ePSA / SupportAssist, HPE Smart Storage Administrator, iDRAC/iLO/IMM health checks). BIOS, BMC/iDRAC/iLO, SAS expanders, backplanes and RAID controllers are updated to the latest stable firmware recommended by the OEM.

4

Stress burn-in (minimum 48 hours)

A minimum 48-hour continuous load test at 100% CPU and memory, using tools such as MemTest86 (full pass), Linpack/HPL for CPU, multi-threaded stress-ng and badblocks/fio for drives. Temperatures, fan RPM, voltages and IPMI/iDRAC logs are continuously monitored to catch any intermittent fault.

5

Final functional validation

All network interfaces are verified at rated speed (1G/10G/25G/40G/100G), along with out-of-band management ports, PSU redundancy, full PCIe enumeration and a clean boot from a diagnostic ISO. Thorough chassis cleaning and replacement of any worn cosmetic part.

Each unit is tagged with an internal certification report and full test history, traceable from our system at any point during the product's lifecycle.

2. Built for Mission-Critical Workloads

Our catalog is designed for workloads where downtime is unacceptable: VMware/Proxmox virtualization, Kubernetes clusters, transactional databases, HPC, SAN/NAS storage and enterprise backends. That is why we exclusively source:

  • OEM-certified rack chassis with redundant components (hot-swap PSUs, hot-swap fans, hot-plug drives).
  • DDR4 / DDR5 ECC Registered memory with error correction, validated with full MemTest86 passes.
  • Enterprise-class drives SAS/SATA/NVMe rated for sustained workloads (MU / WI / RI) — never consumer drives.
  • Out-of-band management (iDRAC Enterprise, iLO Advanced, IMM/XClarity) tested and license-verified where applicable.
  • Current firmware and microcode with security patches applied (including Spectre/Meltdown/Downfall mitigations where relevant).

3. Standard 1-Year Warranty (included)

Every product ships with a free 1-year full warranty, covering any hardware failure that is not the result of misuse.

  • ✓ Coverage starts on the day the equipment is received.
  • ✓ RMA with like-for-like replacement or repair, at our option.
  • ✓ Email and phone technical support throughout the warranty period.
  • ✓ Free replacement shipping within mainland Spain; reduced rates for the rest of the EU.
  • ✓ Target response time: initial diagnosis within 24 business hours.

4. Optional 3-Year Extension

For mission-critical projects that require extended coverage, we offer a 3-year warranty extension that can be purchased at order time or within the first 30 days after delivery.

The 3-year extension includes:

  • ✓ The same terms as the standard warranty, extended to a full 3 years.
  • ✓ Priority RMA queue (preferred handling).
  • ✓ Optional advance replacement: we ship the replacement unit before receiving the failed one.
  • ✓ Optional NBD (Next Business Day) service contract in covered regions, on quote.
  • ✓ Access to an assigned technical engineer for complex incidents.

Pricing depends on the product type and the service level selected. Request a no-commitment quote or add it from any product page before placing your order.

5. What the Warranty Covers and Excludes

✓ Covered

  • CPU, memory, motherboard and chipset failures.
  • Power supply and fan failures.
  • Drive, RAID controller and backplane failures.
  • Onboard network ports and original PCIe cards.
  • Firmware / BMC failures attributable to hardware.

✗ Not covered

  • Damage from power surges, water, fire or undeclared shipping incidents.
  • Unauthorized hardware modifications or unofficial firmware flashing.
  • Operation outside the OEM environmental specifications.
  • Consumables (RAID controller batteries after 12 months).
  • Software, third-party licenses or data stored on the equipment.

6. Returns and Right of Withdrawal

For individual consumers within the European Union, we honor the 14 calendar-day right of withdrawal from the date of delivery, in accordance with EU consumer regulations. To return a product within this window, contact us referencing your order number.

Return conditions:

  • The product must be returned in the same condition it was delivered, with original packaging where possible.
  • Return shipping costs are borne by the customer, except for defective products or order errors.
  • Refunds are issued within 14 days of receiving and inspecting the returned item.
  • Products that were custom-configured to the customer's specification are excluded from the withdrawal right unless defective.

7. How to Open an RMA

  1. Email info@secondlifehardware.com with your order number, the unit serial number and a description of the fault.
  2. Our technical team will provide an initial diagnosis within 24 business hours and guide you through the next steps.
  3. If replacement is approved you will receive an RMA number and shipping instructions for the failed unit.
  4. We ship the replacement once the fault is verified (or upfront, if advance replacement is part of your contract).
